Fifth Standard student Akshay Agarwal of St. Theresa’s Convent School in Mangalore is PETA’s hero for animals this month. Akshay has helped all kinds of animals. He once rescued a snake who had been captured in a net and let him slither away to safety.
One morning, while walking with his father, Akshay came across a malnourished and abandoned puppy, hardly 2 days old. Her eyes had not even opened yet! Akshay immediately called the local animal shelter, which took the puppy into its custody. Akshay could not bear the thought of leaving the puppy at the shelter, and he and his family decided to adopt her and lovingly called her Sweetie. Sweetie is now 3 years old and is rather chubby!
It is easy to turn a blind eye to cruelty, but Akshay shows that it is more rewarding to help. He could have ignored the suffering animals, but he chose to care.
