Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA’s
army of animal advocates – and here is where we shine
the spotlight on their hard work. Hey, kids, we know you do
good deeds because you care about animals, but it is OK to brag
a little about the ways you are making the world a better place
for our animal friends. Tell us how YOU help animals, and you
could be our featured Superstar of the Month!
Rescue Story
Not long ago, in the early hours of a Sunday morning in Juhu, Mumbai, Amol was doing his daily work out on Juhu Beach when he noticed that two dogs were pulling apart a plastic packet which was in the sea. Upon exploring further, Amol was shocked to find a hen in the packet who was struggling to get away from the dogs. He realised this was a part of the barbaric and cruel tradition of animal sacrifice. The little bird was in obvious distress and was missing clumps of feathers all over her body. Realising that she did not stand a chance of surviving on her own, Amol scooped her up and took her to PETA India’s office. Lakshmi, as the hen was named, was soon nestled into a basket and given water to drink. A veterinarian, Dr Warren, examined the terrified animal and gave Amol instructions on how to feed her.
With care, feeding and lots of rest in her warm basket, Lakshmi started along the road to recovery. She made herself feel right at home, strutting around the corridor, taking dust baths in the garden and scratching for food. Soon, Amol found a home for Lakshmi where she could live happily ever after.
Lakshmi is just one hen who got to live in freedom on a farm, but what about the thousands of hens, goats, sheep, pigeons and buffaloes who are sacrificed in temples across the country? Stand up for them! Tell your local temples that animal sacrifice should be relegated to the history books.
