Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA’s
army of animal advocates – and here is where we shine
the spotlight on their hard work. Hey, kids, we know you do
good deeds because you care about animals, but it is OK to brag
a little about the ways you are making the world a better place
for our animal friends. Tell us how YOU help animals, and you
could be our featured Superstar of the Month!
To Shivam Kandhari, an eighth-standard student at Utpal Sanghvi School in Mumbai, rescuing lost and injured animals has always come naturally. Shivam keeps his eyes and ears open for animals who require immediate care and attention. When it comes to animals, Shivam does not play favourites – he loves them all equally!
One evening, while returning home with his friends, Shivam noticed that a cat was lying motionless on the road with blood and mud all over his body. Shivam was told that a motorcycle had hit the cat and that the rider, instead of stopping, had sped away. Shivam realised that the cat needed immediate veterinary care and took him to PETA India’s office. Dr Barry Kalsy examined the cat, whom Shivam named Ginger, and noticed that his stomach muscles were injured. Ginger was operated on and is now on the road to recovery. Ginger loves to sit on people’s laps, and his sunny personality is immediately noticeable – despite his brush with death.
Shivam has rescued many animals, including a puppy and a night shade, a bird whom he found hiding from predators under a car in his driveway. Shivam never closes his eyes to an animal in distress, and neither should you. Remember, animals cannot help themselves – they are dependent on you.
