Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA’s
army of animal advocates – and here is where we shine
the spotlight on their hard work. Hey, kids, we know you do
good deeds because you care about animals, but it is OK to brag
a little about the ways you are making the world a better place
for our animal friends. Tell us how YOU help animals, and you
could be our featured Superstar of the Month!
One evening, while taking a walk on crowded Juhu Beach, Anil came across a dog who was playing with a pigeon. Unfortunately for the pigeon, the dog’s idea of play was quite violent and ended up traumatising the bird. With difficulty, Anil managed to get the dog to release the pigeon without further injuring the bird. To his horror, Anil found fresh blood on one of the bird’s wings, and the pigeon struggled upon trying to fly away. Anil gently wrapped the pigeon in a handkerchief and rushed to PETA India’s office. Dr Warren D’Mello, a veterinarian, examined the pigeon and diagnosed the animal with a fractured wing. An X-ray revealed that the fracture was uncomplicated and could easily be set right. With figure-eight bandaging and proper care and rest for a few weeks, the pigeon recovered completely and was able to fly away, to Anil’s great delight. Anil recalls that when he released the pigeon, the bird circled overhead twice – as if to say, ”Thank you, Anil” – and then flew away.
Remember, defenceless animals need our help. Keep your eyes open for animals in distress.
