PETA Kids Superstar!

PETA India Kids Superstar: Ansh Mehta

Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA’s army of animal advocates – and here is where we shine the spotlight on their hard work. Hey, kids, we know you do good deeds because you care about animals, but it is OK to brag a little about the ways you are making the world a better place for our animal friends. Tell us how YOU help animals, and you could be our featured Superstar of the Month!

Ansh Mehta, a 4-year-old student at Blooming Dales in Mumbai, is our new “hero for animals”. At his tender young age, Ansh has already started helping animals.

One morning, while he was out riding a bicycle with some of his friends, Ansh noticed that a group of crows was pecking at an owl. The owl was obviously in need of help. Ansh scared off the crows and stood guard until they flew away. He then called his neighbour Swati Shah, who works for PETA India. With Swati’s help, Ansh picked up Raja, as he named the owl, with a towel and took him to the nearest veterinarian. The vet discovered that the crows had only managed to inflict very little damage to Raja because of Ansh’s timely intervention. He advised Ansh to place Raja in a large basket and to keep the basket in a dark room until the evening since owls sleep during the day and become disoriented by daylight. Later that night, Ansh released Raja back into the wild, where he belongs.

Whenever Ansh sees animals in distress, he stops to help them. Since he is still so young, he makes sure to get help from a knowledgeable person who is able to handle animals, but the one thing he never does is walk away from an animal who is in distress. Remember, compassionate children grow up to be compassionate adults. Animals need you to help them – they cannot defend themselves.
