Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA’s
army of animal advocates – and here is where we shine
the spotlight on their hard work. Hey, kids, we know you do
good deeds because you care about animals, but it is OK to brag
a little about the ways you are making the world a better place
for our animal friends. Tell us how YOU help animals, and you
could be our featured Superstar of the Month!
Eleven-year-old Amer Ahmed is PETA’s animal hero this
month. Amer shares a special affinity with his feathered friends
and cannot bear to see them in distress. He spends his free
time looking out his window and spotting birds! From parakeets
to cuckoos, Amer knows his birds like the back of his hand.
Recently, Amer found a white pigeon whose legs were tied to
a window railing. The bird was scared, badly injured and in
pain. Amer untied the bird and took him home. After a week of
TLC (tender loving care) from Amer and his family, the pigeon
flew off to roost with a family of pigeons near their house.
Not only that, Amer’s father once found an injured budgerigar
who could not fly. Amer took the poor little budgie under his
wing, and restored him to good health.
An ardent member of his school’s nature club, Amer is
always busy working on slide shows and participating in quizzes
to spread the word on how we can share the world peacefully
with animals. In his summer vacation, he is working at the Mumbai
zoo, helping to enrich the leopard enclosure and making rounds
of the place to ensure that no visitor is teasing the animals.
It is easy to turn a blind eye to cruelty, but Amer shows it
is more rewarding to help. One thing this dedicated defender
knows is that birds should be allowed to fly free; for them,
a cage is a prison and their wings are to be used.
Now, how about you? Are you a superstar for animals? Do you
know someone who is? We want to know! E-mail PETAKids@petaindia.org
